JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Programmer/Database Administrator
Department: Information Services and Information Technology

Reports to: Director of Information Services and Information Technology
Represented (Y/N): N

Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm

Salary: DOE

Summary: This position performs analysis, design, user support and programming of database application systems to facilitate the goals and processes of the organization.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Provide database administration support including database performance optimization and SQL Server programming

• Assist in the design, development and customization of database applications.

• Ensure day-to-day functionality of database systems including diagnosing and solving technical programs and systems performance monitoring and evaluation.

• Provide support for other IT Department staff and assist with dataset manipulation and management of IT Department database related projects.

• Conduct hardware and software analysis and contribute to application and systems software development and support.

• Maintain and monitor system hardware and software.

• Integrate hardware and software systems and applications into existing environments.

• Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches and resolve software related problems.

• Maintain data files and monitor system configuration and ensure data integrity.

• Assist computer users by maintaining and troubleshooting organization-wide and departmental software.

Description of other duties:
• Research new software and technologies for applicable use.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities:
• Specific database development experience using SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Crystal Reports, Visual Basic and secure web-based data sharing applications.

• Technical skills that include LAN/WAN administration and data and system security.

• Prefer experience using Visual Studios tools for building data warehouses.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to work under pressure.

• Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and organize large amounts of information.

• Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.

• Ability to perform arithmetic computations.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.

• Ability to work courteously and effectively communicate with diverse group of employees, co-workers, tenants/clients and general public.

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business or information systems.

• Four or more years of professional related experience in software development and compiling and producing data and reports in an automated environment. Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Minimum qualifications including education, experience, license, sobriety:
• Experience as part of a software development team.

• Must have knowledge of relational database design and database administration tasks.

• Experience in project management.

• Experience planning and implementing a large-scale system conversion.

• Experience in building and administrating systems.

• Must carry a cell phone.

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

• Must adhere to agency’s non-discrimination policies.

• Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
