Westwood College in Denver is looking for a Database Administrator.
The role of the data Database Administrator is responsible for defining and managing all aspects of the database layer including OLTP/OLAP/Data warehouse databases. Defines the database-specific constructs such as tables, indexes, views, constraints, triggers, stored procedures or storage parameters, and others that are needed to store, retrieve, and delete persistent objects. Manages and troubleshoots nightly processes required for database operational integrity, helps plan future database growth. Recommends and sizes new database servers required for expansion.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to troubleshoot database problems encountered in normal day to day running of a production database.
Responsible for design, maintenance and to ensure high availability of a 24×7 production database(s).
Responsible for managing nightly database maintenance jobs and working with our offshore partners to ensure all databases are available and updated for the business.
Solid Understanding of multi-tier, network and firewall architecture. Ability to design and develop databases from requirements.
System Architecture, including Database and System performance tuning, as well as hardware workload balancing and failover.
Database tuning, including: Designing strategies, per application, for IO optimization Index Design Query plan analysis and optimization lock management, Data integrity.
Ability to track performance metrics over a period of time to ensure future scalability of the environment
Able to troubleshoot SSIS and DTS package execution and failure
Ability to create and update complex SSIS packages and aggregation of data from several interrelated databases
Responsible for documenting database environment including replication, data migration and data transformation
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare weekly status reports outlining progress, issues, and next steps.
Complete/manage personal projects on a month to month basis
Create and manage diagrams and ongoing documentation of the database structures and data transformations.
Create and manage diagrams of current database servers and topology
Partner with offshore DBA to coordinate required work and resolutions
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent
5-10 years of DBA experience (SQL Server 2000 & 2005, 2008)
4-8 years of T-SQL Programming experience.
Effective organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills: attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to apply a structured methodology to database designs
Proven experience in a high volume complex database environment
Enjoys working on several projects at a time
Ability to analyze and prioritize work
Strong analytical and systems design and documentation skills
Great project management skills
Broad-based applications experience and interactions with different RDBMS systems
Understanding of network communication and troubleshooting
Understanding and implementation of enterprise level database disaster recovery practices
Strong understanding of general business practices
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to interact with users/developers and management.
Ability to work in team environment as well as alone.
Strong analysis and problem solving skills.
